Experience the world's first augmented reality tour focused on Richmond's role as an epicenter of racial slavery

The Shockoe Institute, in partnership with ARtGlass and Snap Inc., has launched a groundbreaking wearable augmented reality tour, exploring Richmond’s pivotal role in America’s internal trade in enslaved people. Employing Snap’s advanced Spectacles and powered by ARtGlass’ storytelling technology, visitors can thoughtfully explore this painful, essential history.

Many of the most significant sites from this period were destroyed, remain unmarked, or are difficult to interpret. By merging 3D reconstructions of lost buildings like Lumpkin's Slave Jail, first-person narratives, virtual artifacts, and interactive touchpoints, visitors gain a unique and deeper understanding of the past as history unfolds before their eyes.

This first-of-its-kind tour will be available for attendees at several of the Shockoe Institute's upcoming events. If you're interested in this tour, please enter your name and email below.
