The Shockoe Institute is a national organization headquartered in Richmond Virginia dedicated to revealing the enduring impact of American slavery on our shared American experience and future.
Our historic headquarters
In Richmond, Virginia's Shockoe Valley – once an epicenter of the American slave trade – stands the Shockoe Institute. Our 12,300 square foot exhibition and educational space supporting our evidence-based scholarship and immersive storytelling is in Richmond’s historic Main Street Station.
